For Hispanic-heritage seniors in the Wichita metro, it's $10,000 over four years ($1,250 a semester), renewable with a 3.0 GPA, and it covers trade programs, community college, and university alike. It isn't just a check — they add mentoring, FAFSA and scholarship help, and college advising, and they've awarded around $1 million since 2008.

The single best local list isn't online — it's the scholarship binder in your high school counselor's office. That's where the smallest, least-competitive awards live: Kiwanis, electric co-ops, churches, employers, civic clubs, many routed straight through the school with deadlines that shift year to year. Check it early in senior year, then again every few weeks.

Kansas Board of Regents Aid
Kansas doesn't have one flat lottery award like some states. It's a set of programs you apply for through a single portal. The broad one is the Kansas Comprehensive Grant — need-based, for Kansas residents at the six state universities, Washburn, or the eighteen private Kansas colleges, with the FAFSA as the gate. The Kansas State Scholarship (up to $1,000 a year) is for students who complete the Kansas Scholars Curriculum and get named a State Scholar — so if your student is a freshman or sophomore, the planning starts with that coursework now, not senior year.

Here's the part that quietly costs families money: the Comprehensive Grant runs out. Only about one in three eligible students actually gets funded, and the number one reason kids get denied is a missing or unfinished FAFSA. File it early.
